Tourism Accreditation

Why is the establishment of the Tourism Accreditation system necessary? It will help promote a national minimum standard requirement of operations to be met by tourism operators, and give consumers the opportunity to make an informed and confident choice about the legitimacy and quality of a product.

Benefits

To the industry and operators: it will make Vanuatu a more competitive destination; allow operators to take part in tourism trade events with wholesalers; underpin risk mitigation through industry standards; assist implementation of measures that enhance the total visitor experience and consumer satisfaction; improve customer service and communications; and carry the benefits associated with national and international promotion of the accreditation logo as a symbol of quality within the tourism industry.

To visitors: reliability and consistency of product and service; security and safety through improved risk management procedures; and confidence in the product, as accreditation underpins the process of ensuring a business will consistently meet the expectations of the domestic and international consumer.

Minimum Operating Standards

The Tourism Product Operator Minimum Standards are sets of minimum requirements that any tourism operator in Vanuatu MUST meet before getting a tourism business license.

Code of Conduct

Mission statement: To ensure tourism operators are upholding the Vanuatu Sustainable Tourism Policy (2019-2030) Vision "To protect and celebrate Vanuatu's unique environment, culture, kastom and people through sustainable and responsible tourism" and values highlighted that "Tourism in Vanuatu embraces the traditional and formal economies; it provides sustainable growth by strengthening national and community resilience with the ultimate goal of delivering equitable economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits for Vanuatu and its people".

Any operator who conducts their tourism business within an area determined by the Department of Tourism as an Ecologically and Culturally Significant Area (ECSA) must declare this at time of applying for a tourism permit. They are required to abide by criteria for managing tourism operations within ECSAs.
